THE future of student living has arrived.
Far from the traditional student accommodation, where young adults are packed into a pokey outer-suburban highset, South Bank’s Urbanest strives to make student life more stylish.
Located close to the city and public transport, the secure accommodation, reserved for tertiary students, comes with its own ensuite, storage and air-conditioning.
There is also a shared kitchen and lounge area near the apartments and a communal outdoor entertainment area, complete with barbecues, and a foyer area, which has an entertainment lounge with cable television, pool tables and group study spaces.
Regional operations manager Mark Lewis said there had been strong interest in the building’s 713 beds from domestic and international students.
``At this stage we’re anticipating an 80-20 international-to-local-student ratio,’’ he said.
Rents start at $265 a week, which covers all utilities and air-conditioning.
The building opens officially on February 1.
