Study Techniques for University Students
Studying at university is very different to studying when you were in high school. You need to learn good study techniques as a university student. Consistency is extremely important as otherwise you will find it difficult to cope. You should allocate time to study each week and not just try to study before an exam. Here are some study tips to help you out.
Perseverance
High school to university is a huge jump and it takes time to adjust. Go through your tutorials repeatedly and attend all lectures. Take down notes. Remain attentive and understand all concepts thoroughly. Initially, it may be difficult, but once you are regular and disciplined, success comes easy. It is your responsibility to attend the classes and make the most of what information the lecturers provide, so don’t start skipping lectures.
Time Management
Complete all assignments on time. Do not put away submissions for a later date. Soon all submissions, assignments pile up, and you will be extremely short of time. Learning and completing assignments in a short time cannot improve your grades. You receive all tutorials, subject guides, and other essential materials within the first week. You can allocate time for each subject. Maintain a timetable and adhere to it. Check the timetable and your progress at intermittent intervals to confirm you are proceeding as planned or not. Systematic studying and working delivers good grades.
Help
If you are unsure of any subject or tutorial, do not hesitate. Seek help from your professors or approach senior students. Student unions and associations often have a student-learning centre on campus. You can get necessary help and guidance from these centers.
Referencing
Studying at a university is very different from the school education. You should consult reference books or read more about your subject at the library. Gather extra information and remain updated about your subjects. This will get you higher grades as you will be more adept in your subject.
Revise
Revision does not mean cramming. Revise whatever you have studied in your mind whenever you get short breaks. Just going over your own lecture notes can simplify topics. Such short spells of revisions keep you in touch with all topics, even if you do not sit and study them in detail.
Studying in a university is very different from high school. Remain regular and focused on your studies, complete and submit assignments on time, revise, be free of stress, manage your time effectively, and seek help whenever necessary to improve your grades.
