Sydney Festivals for students

Now you’re a student in Sydney, being a local means you’re able to take part of some of Sydney’s great festivals.

Not a city to shun a party, Sydney’s attractions includes some great annual events which students can get involved with.

The biggest festival in Sydney is the Sydney Festival, which has been running since 1977. Its program features more than 50 events including classical and contemporary music, dance, circus, drama, visual arts and public lectures. Its indoor and outdoor presentations attract an estimated 1 million people annually. The wonderful news for any students on a budget is that most of these events are FREE!

This year (2010) there’s 82 attractions and various events to get involved with. There are theatre, music, dance, art and talks across various Sydney venues.

Next cultural festival open to students is the Chinese New Year celebrations usually held in February of the New Year. In 2009 there were over 50 events to enjoy, though Sydney’s Chinatown and various local venues. Some of the highlights included the beautiful floats and lanterns of the Chinese New Year Twilight Parade and the excitement of the Dragon Boat Races in Darling Harbour.

Some other festivals for students to look into include; Sydney Design Festival, Sydney Writers festival, Sydney International Food festival, Taste of Sydney festival, Shakespeare Festival, Australia Day, Sydney Comedy Festival and the Sydney Film Festival.
