Free Events in Brisbane – April 2010
As the weather finally begins to cool down, here are some fabulous and free events students can attend during the month of April. There is always plenty to do as a student, but April has some of the best festivals in Queensland, so make sure you get along to at least one of these events.
2nd April – Redcliffe Festival of Sails
9am – 4pm at Suttons Beach (Marine Parade, Redcliffe)
This great event has everything you could ask for to have a fun, relaxing day by the sea. Live music and entertainment, sand-sculpting workshops, a beach Easter Egg hunt ... even a sky-diving Easter Bunny!
Entry is free, and you should be able to find plenty of bargains at more than one hundred market stalls. There is plenty of fun to have with beach tennis and volleyball, and the Redcliffe Outrigger Canoes are running come ‘n’ try sessions. Redcliffe is also a great vantage point to watch the yachts as they set off on the Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race. Redcliffe is accessible by bus, or the closest train station is at nearby Shorncliffe.
10th – 18th April – National Youth Week
National Youth Week is a great opportunity for our nation’s youth (aged 12-25) to showcase their talents, attend fabulous live events, and discuss issues that are of direct concern to them.In addition, National Youth Week is the perfect time to try out some new activities and to learn new skills. There are hundreds of different events held all over Australia, so to access up-to-date information on events scheduled for Brisbane, head to www.youthweek.com/2010/events.
15th – 25th April – Ipswich Festival
The Ipswich Festival is one of the fastest growing events in Queensland and has a great family atmosphere with plenty of free attractions for everyone to enjoy. Last year, the festival attracted well-known performers such as David Campbell. You definitely do not want to miss this festival.
Both buses and trains service Ipswich, so go along to the festival and you will be sure to have a great time with lots of fun and plenty of free entertainment.
There is plenty to do in April in Brisbane, so put some of these dates into your social calendar and plan some outings with your friends from your student accommodation.
