Places to Visit in Brisbane on a Budget
University students are always looking for cheap forms of entertainment. While there are plenty of touristy things to do around Brisbane, many of the adventures cost more than students can usually afford, since most students work only part-time and have to pay student rents and for food and all the other living expenses that students cannot ignore.
Here are three places that offer much free entertainment and will only cost you as much as you can afford. You will have a great day out with your mates from the student accommodation or with other university students.
South Bank
If you are clever or musical, you could even make some extra cash at South Bank by busking for a few hours. The buskers entertain the crowds for coins and provide a terrific carnival atmosphere to the area. Even if you cannot perform, you will find plenty to keep you entertained for hours throughout the South Bank area. The markets can provide you with cheap produce and clothes that will help you to stick to your student budget. South bank offers so much more than commercial opportunities though, making it easy to spend a whole day for little money.
In the middle of the city, South Bank offers a beautiful beach that is free for everyone to enjoy. Go swimming at the beach or enjoy a dip in one of the swimming pools. Play beach cricket or beach volleyball with the other university students and have a great day. Pack a picnic lunch and some cold drinks in an esky or buy cheap eats from some of food stalls in the market area. Either way, a day at South Bank will not break your budget.
Go to the Bay
There are plenty of beautiful picnic areas around the Bay area in Brisbane. Catch a train to Redcliffe, Shorncliffe, or Wynnum Manly to find some of the best picnic spots around Brisbane. Explore the mudflats by wading into the bay or swim in a saltwater rock pool. You’ll find plenty to keep you occupied for hours in these beautiful, scenic locations.
Eumundi Markets
Get a group together and drive to Eumundi (just a 90 minute drive up the Bruce Highway to the town near Noosa). The Eumundi markets are huge and take over the entire town. It will take you and your student friends hours to examine the goods in every stall, many of which are tucked away in alleys and lanes around the town, as well as filling the entire parkland and the covered market area. Every Wednesday from 8am - 1.30pm and every Saturday from 6.30 to 2pm, the town of Eumundi comes alive with the most vibrant markets in Australia. You can all kinds of food at the markets to enjoy on the day and the best fresh fruits and vegetables to make healthy snacks throughout the week. Besides the food, you can find bargains of every description: art, clothes, bags, shoes, jewellery, and unique gifts.
You can never say you are bored in Brisbane, when there is so much free entertainment readily available.
